Extra Credit Opportunities

My extra credit “philosophy” is that students who want to challenge themselves above and beyond class expectations should be encouraged to do so. Additionally, students who are in danger of failing can benefit by these curricular opportunities to learn more about units previously covered than they managed to learn while we covered them.  I don't believe, under any circumstances, that we should think of extra credit as a substitute or replacement for credit.

Travel Opportunities: earn a 100% test grade for traveling on any of the following official class field trips and reporting back to the class on what you've seen.

      1) November 1: Old Manse in Concord, MA--Nathaniel Hawthorne's house

      2) January 7: Mark Twain House in Hartford, CT

      3) April 4: Walden Pond in Concord, MA

      4) May 31: Forest Hills Cemetery in Jamaica Plain, MA

Alternatively, you can travel on your own, with parent/guardian permission, to any of the following places, providing ample photographic evidence and reflection to the class on your visit:

   Emily Dickinson home, Amherst, MA

   Custom House, Salem, MA

   Robert Frost House, Derry, NH

   Robert Frost House, Ripton, VT

Harriet Beecher Stowe House, Hartford, CT

   Edith Wharton House, Lenox, MA

   Orchard House, Concord, MA

Additionally, I offer smaller travel/reading extra-credit opportunities in class or overnight. You should keep your ears in tune for these!   These include extra NEWSPAPER ARTICLES which will earn you ten test points of extra credit for each article published.
