A funny story about my family happened around Halloween when I was very young. Me, my two brothers, and my parents went to Castle Island for the annual haunted castle.

My family would go to Castle Island every year for the haunted castle and it was always a good time. Once when we went we were behind family with a annoying kid, who was about a year older than my oldest brother, who was 7 at the time. He was dressed in a vampire outfit and was wearing a cape. He was trying to scare me and my brothers all day and we were getting very angry and him. Finally I got so mad at the kid and called him “boogie lips”. He got mad and ran at me. My older brother stepped his foot on the kids cape when he was running and he tripped right on his face. He got up crying and the family left because of it. We were all much happier after that because we did not have to deal with the annoying kid.

This showed me a lot about my brother because he stuck up for me and tripped the kid so he would not attack me. My brother still acts the same way today and I no that if I ever need help my family is there to protect me.

dear alfred lord tennyson

Although I think you are a talented writer I regret to inform you that you will not make our text book this year. You are not the type of writer we want to put in a sophomore text book. Your style of writing will not interest the sophomores and they will not respond in good ways. I want to put together the best textbook possible and I think if we got a more modern and entertaining author the book would be better.

I think a good sophomore textbook should have stories and poems that will interest the students and not bore them. Your poems get students bored and it leads to them not responding well to the work and it makes them not pay attention. As writer Brian Maclean said “Tennysons poems are often long and absurd.”

Many of you poems are hard to understand and the way they were written is out dated and boring. The lady of Shallot is a poem with a good story but it is to long and written in a way that high school students will not understand. I think that the book should have long stories and poems in it, but not if it is not entertaining the full way through. If we want sophmore students to learn and do well, we need to supply entertaining stories.

In conclusion I am sorry but you did not have the type of writing skills we are looking to put in our text book.

Superstitions are used by a lot of British literature authors. People believed in Superstitions more long ago, so superstition is a big theme of ancient British literature. For example, Beowulf, the first every story known to be written in English is extremely superstitious. In Beowulf the author uses superstitions such as monsters and dragons, which today sound ridiculous, but back then it did not seem so far fetched. The story I chose, the Oogus by Diane Regan, an Irish writer. It is more modern, although it uses some themes similar to Beowulf

The story the Oogus is about a monster that lives in a quiet town. The monster feeds on the pets of the townspeople, until they protect their animals, then he feeds on the towns children. This story tries to get us to believe in monsters. The author uses some great descriptions and makes the story seem like something that could possibly had happened sometime in the world. It is far fetched, but you could imagine something like it happening.

This story shows a lot about British literature and Irish people. The story shows creativity of folktales of the Irish culture. The story has the monster eating animals and children. Animals were important to them and children are irreplaceable. The story shows the people at the end getting together and burning the monsters home and killing him. This shows how people work together to stop their problems and return things to normal, while also getting revenge for their loses. Irish people lost a lot of things around this time so the story also uses a theme of loss.

This story is hard to take seriously though. Any story written in the 20th century talking about monsters is. It has some very childish themes in it, including monsters and magic. Its was hard to find a critic so I used my mother, who introduced me to the story for a critical statement for my essay. She said, “the story is great and has a lot of good Irish history, and also superstition in it, put it doesn’t have a very good plot to it.

This story is a great superstitious story and I recommend it to anyone who likes to read stories about mythical monsters and magic. It has a lot of good themes that I look for in a good story. It is entertaining, and even a little scary and suspenseful. The Oogus is not well known. Although it has the making of a story that could be told to little children to scare them from walking down the street alone forever.
